Service with Purpose

For over a decade in the Indian Coast Guard, Apoorva served with distinction, mastering the art of navigating VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) environments that would challenge even the most seasoned leaders. Her tenure included championing operations, logistics, and human capital management—whether it was overseeing the logistical maintenance of an aircraft unit worth ₹950 crores, managing resources for a fleet of 16 aircraft and more than 1,000 pieces of ground support equipment, or rallying teams of over 50 personnel with quiet influence and steadfast dedication.

Under extreme operational pressure, she emerged as a tactical decision-maker ensuring national security and crisis management when seconds mattered. She collaborated with regulatory authorities and diverse stakeholders, preparing her units to adapt rapidly to emerging challenges. Leading 300 personnel, she successfully handled multimillion-rupee budgets and achieved substantial cost savings for the exchequer by halving traditional allocations through innovative strategies.

Beyond the Uniform

Though a Short Service Engagement Officer, Apoorva made the deeply personal decision to conclude her military career after 10 years to devote more time to nurturing her daughter. This meant stepping away from the prestige of a Class A Gazetted Officer post, yet it infused her leadership approach with even greater empathy and resilience. Her experiences as both a mother and a military officer fuel her mission to drive change particularly in mental health education, with a focus on the pressures of corporate life.

She continues to inspire and empower those around her, combining the resilience of a military leader with the intellect of a strategist. Her vision includes championing process improvements, enhancing training programs, and uplifting every team she works with ensuring readiness for both audits and the most demanding crisis scenarios.

A Visionary in Action

Apoorva is not just defined by the breadth of her responsibilities but by the spirit with which she embraces them. She is a visionary strategist, a turnaround specialist, and a collaborator whose communication skills unify teams across backgrounds and disciplines. Her achievements include pioneering IT infrastructure projects on remote islands, conducting large-scale training programs, and orchestrating high-impact conferences.

Alongside her operational success, she advocates strongly for mental health, believing that true leadership involves nurturing minds, supporting those facing silent battles, and creating environments where individuals can thrive. Post-retirement, she has continued her pursuit of growth earning Post Graduate Diplomas in Mass Communication and Operations Management, learning new languages, and embracing lifelong learning.

Forged in Service

Born and raised in New Delhi, Apoorva is an engineer by degree and a proud military veteran. In a nation where only a small number of women serve in the armed forces—around 130 in the Coast Guard and roughly 11,414 across all three services—her journey stands as a testament to the resilience, skill, and dedication of India’s women officers.

Her training at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala was nothing short of grueling—an experience that transforms recruits into leaders through relentless physical training, scorching heat, and intense schedules. As the saying goes, “Officers are forged, not born,” and earning one’s stripes is a battle far greater than simply passing the SSB.

A decade later, Apoorva reflects on her service with gratitude, crediting it for teaching her that nothing is impossible and preparing her for challenges in every sphere of life.

The Journey Ahead

With the hope of changing the world embedded in her soul, Apoorva now embarks on a new journey—continuing to lead, adapt, and inspire beyond her uniform. Her story reminds us that leadership is not the absence of fear or uncertainty—it is the unwavering decision to rise above it for the progress of all, especially for those who need a voice, a vision, and a helping hand.
