Zomato is an Indian multinational restaurant aggregator and food delivery company founded by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah in 2008. Zomato provides information, menus and user-reviews of restaurants as well as food delivery options from partner restaurants in select cities. As of 2019, the service is available in 24 countries and in more than 10,000 cities

The IIT graduates Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddha came to the idea of a menu assisting app after hours of brainstorming. Moreover, the purpose they realized when they came across the people who were standing in the queues of the restaurant and not even could get a flash of the menu.

First, the concept came into existence as a menu scanned software of different native restaurants over the city afterwards they further aided food delivery service in it, renamed the startup Zomato as well. In addition, just like every start-up, it faced many challenges in its journey also.

Zomato was founded as Foodiebay in 2008, and was renamed Zomato on 18 January 2010 as Zomato Media Pvt. Ltd. In 2011, it expanded across India to Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. In 2012, it expanded operations internationally in several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Qatar, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and South Africa. In 2013, expanded to in New Zealand, Turkey, Brazil and Indonesia, with website and apps available in Turkish, Portuguese, Indonesian and English languages. In April 2014, it launched in Portugal, which was followed by launches in Canada, Lebanon and Ireland in 2015.

In 2015, it was a major financial crisis for Zomato, that made it function its major layoff so far. In addition, another big challenge was their alignment of the services along with different restaurants, in different areas of the city. However, they have overcome all the obstacles and entrenched themselves as one of the largest food delivering brands internationally. Zomato has acquired 12 startups globally.

Although they consider one of the greatest accomplishments to acquire U.S.-based online table reservation platform Next Table in the initial stage of the startup, it was not easy to do that, it took an effort-full process to achieve this.
